E. coli strikes again -- Pensamientos (afterthought)
The last two weeks we've been hearing about the outbreak of deadly E. coli. According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control's September 29, 2006 bulletin, 187 people have fallen ill due to E. coli 0157:H7, and two people have died. Although E. coli is present in the intestines of many mammals including humans, the 0157:H7 strain of the bacteria can be deadly. Health officials believe that this recent outbreak of deadly E. coli came from contaminated fresh spinach and are warning consumers not to eat fresh, uncooked spinach. I often buy bags of fresh spinach and eat it for its health benefits. But when I heard about the E. coli outbreak, I immediately went to my refrigerator and threw the bag of spinach in the garbage. I follow the advice: "when in doubt, throw it out." Most of us are careful about the foods we eat and periodically throw out the foods that we think may be bad. But how often do we consume harmful pictures and scenes in movies and on television? We are careful not to eat foods that are questionable, but we seem to be willing to swallow whole videos and movies that are peppered with immoral language and nudity. Even much of our music has been infected with sexual innuendo and immorality. The so-called "Bible belt" of the south produces some of the most immoral country music available today. Hollywood and Nashville are able to sell this sin tainted entertainment because we consume them willingly. What we don't realize is that our souls are being infected and the bacterium of ungodliness is growing in our hearts. We can stop this outbreak of infection, if we stop ingesting the poison laden books, movies, and music. Do you and your family a favor. When in doubt, throw it out.
