Plan to Live with Purpose
Strategy. According to the dictionary strategy is "the art of devising or employing plans or stratagems toward a goal." A wise man once said, "Aim at nothing, and you'll hit it every time." Another wise man said, "Fail to plan, and you plan to fail." The wisest man of all said, "Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 16:3)."1 Jesus had a plan and he pursued his plan with reckless abandon because he knew that ultimately he would win the victor's prize. Even though he needed to go through a terrible death he was not discouraged. Jesus was the most optimistic person who ever lived. The Bible says that Jesus suffered the pain and humiliation of death by crucifixion because of the "joy set before him (Hebrews 12:2)". That joy was the joy of knowing that he would bring millions and millions of men and women, boys and girls out of darkness and into God's marvelous light. We too can have tremendous success in our lives and ministry if we live purpose driven lives. Realism must be inspired by the power of idealism. Pragmatism must be tempered by biblical truth and infused with the energy of vision. Optimism must fuel our work. Faith must inspire our prayers. God must crush our doubts and pessimism and from the dust and ashes of disappointment bring our dreams back to life like the phoenix of old and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, transform our efforts into a working plan that brings honor to God, reaches the lost with the gospel, and grows his church.
