Tempting woodchucks
Recently I trapped a woodchuck that had been living under our shed in the back yard. I have tried to catch this woodchuck for the last three years. I have tried carrots, peanut butter, and cheese as bait, but nothing seemed to work. So I gave up in frustration. But this year, when the woodchuck burrowed out from his winter hibernation, he dug a hole so huge that I knew that I needed to try to catch him again. So I went on line and found out that woodchucks like to eat lettuce; so I put a trail of lettuce from the woodchuck's hole leading into the trap. The next day there he was in the trap.1 I covered the trap with a blanket and took the woodchuck to a park and released him good as new into his new home. I could have saved a lot of frustration, if I had just used the right bait. Apparently woodchucks have a weakness for lettuce. The mighty woodchuck was easily trapped because the lettuce led him right into the cage. Do you have such a weakness? Are there some enticements that are simply too irresistible? Many men are particularly vulnerable to pornography. If you have such a weakness, then you must guard yourself. Stay out of stores that sell it and never go to web sites that show pornographic images. Not even once. Don't let curiosity get the best of you. Some women are vulnerable to envy. Stay out of the comparison trap. God made you the way you are. If you can change something, then take the steps to change it; but often we're stuck with the face and body shape we were born with. We have little choice but to accept that this is how God made us. It's easier to accept our self for who we are if we don't compare our self to someone who might be better looking. Satan has many traps but more dangerous than the traps are the kinds of bait that he uses to lure us in. Jesus said, "Keep watching and praying, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41)."2 Watching for the traps, Pastor SteveFootnotes 1 The trap is made to catch rodants but designed so as not to harm or injure them. 2 Matthew 26:41, NASB (New American Standard Bible).
